The Milnthorpe Annual Art Exhibition – the largest open art exhibition in the North West

THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR CONTRIBUTING TO ANOTHER GREAT EXHIBITION IN 2019. See you again in 2020.

The exhibition could be described in modern terms as a "pop-up" event held over 3 1/2 days in August.  In 2020 it will run between Thursday 6th - Sunday 9th August.

The whole of St Thomas' church is taken over and filled with over 600 exhibits by more than 200 artists. All the exhibits are well displayed and lit. We also serve light refreshments in the Church during the opening times. Admission is free.

Prices of exhibits typically range from £30 to £1000. We suggest that you trust your taste but, to help you, we have a rigorous selection process and usually only about 50 per cent of paintings submitted are displayed for sale. As a result we have helped many artists to become recognised and valued. We usually sell 2/3rds of the paintings we hang.

Come and browse and perhaps purchase some original paintings (no prints!) and artwork at the largest open Art Exhibition in the North West? The money we raise goes towards local charities.

Once you have bought that new kitchen or bathroom have you thought about adding something nice to the wall or hall table? Something that gets you or your guests thinking and talking, that is unique to you and your tastes?

This could just be your chance to own a small art collection We don't mean the Gulbenkian, Frick or Saatchi collections but something affordable by ordinary people.

Admission is free.

For artists, the selection process is rigorous and usually only about 50 per cent of paintings submitted are displayed for sale. As a result we have helped many artists to become recognised and valued.

For the buying public, it is a very good opportunity to purchase fairly-priced, original art from accomplished artists with the knowledge that any commission goes to charity in the community.  Over the 30 years of it's existence charitable donations have exceeded £170 000. In 2019, as well as St Thomas’ Church, the Exhibition suppored the North West Air Ambulance, The Bendrigg Trust and Eversley Choir.

It is actually not as difficult or expensive as you may think. We have a number of long term purchasers who have bought original artworks from our exhibition and now have collections which provide a source of long lasting pleasure.

Art can function on many levels. It can provide a primary focus to the room and can express a lot about the owner. Chosen wisely it can provide some investment potential. It can also provide a great source of personal pleasure because it has an emotional appeal or because it simply looks beautiful.

If you have some art in your home it is surprising how often your eyes are drawn to it repeatedly over the years. Not the sort of pleasure you get from other home purchases. Washing machines - I don't think so!
